"Raute’s values are also my own values."

Raute’s values are also my own values.

I started in Hiottu (which became part of Raute in 2020) in 2018 as a trainee doing both full-stack development and research on AI. Recently, I have done a lot of research on neural networks, deep learning, and linear regression models to predict outcomes as well as machine vision. I also did my master’s thesis on deep learning while working here at Raute.

The use of AI, especially machine vision, is a vital feature in Raute’s analyzer offering for detecting the knots and splits of wood. Basically, the features we develop here are used to identify whether wood is good or not to be processed by plywood or veneer machine. This supports our customers in resource efficiency.

Software engineering has been my dream job. What I also like about Raute is the flexibility and the ability to have a good work-life balance. I’m part of a team with 10-12 members who are good co-workers of mine and work well together. There’s been quite a bit of emphasis on achieving things together, and we have more team meetings where we share our weekly agendas and accomplishments. We are building a more collaborative culture with improved communications.

Raute’s values are important to me as they are also my own values, and I share them with the company. To keep customers happy, we need to be able to communicate with customers what they really want. Both promoting development and keeping improving yourself are very important. I am also happy about the sustainability aspect of the values, as the company cares about the planet in that sense.
