Raute expands MillSIGHTS connectivity with GlobalReader technology

As engineered wood products manufacturers continue to digitalize their operations, access to production data across the entire mill has become increasingly important. However, not every production asset requires extensive automation integration, and not every machine is connected to modern data collection systems.

To help mills gain broader visibility into production performance, Raute has expanded the connectivity options for MillSIGHTS, Raute's production intelligence software for the veneer, plywood, and LVL industry. The new capability enables production data to be collected quickly and cost-effectively from selected equipment and processes that have traditionally been difficult or expensive to integrate into mill-wide reporting systems.

Many veneer, plywood, and LVL mills operate equipment from different generations and suppliers. While critical production lines typically justify deeper PLC-level integrations, supporting processes often require a lighter approach.

Examples include debarking, chipping, stack handling, and material handling applications, where mills want visibility into production performance without extensive integration projects. By making more production data available in MillSIGHTS, customers gain a more complete view of operations across the mill.

“Many mills already have good visibility into their core production lines, but less visibility into supporting processes and older equipment. By expanding MillSIGHTS connectivity, we can help customers build a more complete picture of mill performance and identify improvement opportunities across the entire operation,” says Tapani Tilus, Chief Technology Officer, Raute Corporation.

To support this capability, Raute has partnered with GlobalReader, an industrial production monitoring technology provider. Through the partnership, GlobalReader’s technology is available exclusively through Raute for veneer, plywood, and LVL production applications. The partnership combines Raute’s deep expertise in veneer, plywood, and LVL production with GlobalReader’s fast-to-deploy data collection technology.

The collaboration expands the ways mills can bring production data from selected assets into the MillSIGHTS environment. Customers benefit from faster implementation, broader coverage of mill operations, and a more unified view of production performance.

“Together with Raute, we can help mills connect production data from equipment that has traditionally remained outside mill-wide reporting systems. Combining our fast-to-deploy technology with MillSIGHTS gives customers better visibility across their operations and helps them get more value from the equipment they already have,” says Indrek Jaal, Board Member, GlobalReader.

The expanded connectivity capability strengthens MillSIGHTS as a production intelligence platform for the veneer-based industry. By bringing data from additional equipment into a common environment, mills gain better visibility into how different parts of the production process perform together, creating a stronger foundation for performance improvement, operational development, and data-driven decision-making.

The solution is delivered as part of Raute’s MillSIGHTS offering, allowing customers to work with a single partner for production data collection, analytics, support, and operational development.
