There is always a "fit-to-your-need" line from Raute's own offering for any and all production processes starting from log handling, running through veneer production to plywood, LVL, or solid wood panels.
Machines
The core of production lines is made of machines. Many of Raute’s machines can be installed into existing lines as modernizations, also to other brand but Raute lines.

Prior to the recent investment, IPL faced critical operational hurdles in its patching area that threatened to restrict overall efficiency. Relying on manual labor for this stage heavily limited the speed of the entire production line.
According to IPL, the key challenges included:
"Due to number of manual patching staffing needed this area had continuous issue being a major bottleneck in production. Staff were required on all shifts for patching and then overtime was also required. This was a major restriction to production."

Together, IPL and Raute implemented an automated, high-precision solution. Recognizing that true operational transformation requires a reliable partner, IPL leaned on their existing relationship with Raute to integrate the patented Panel Repair Station R5.
Panel Repair Station R5
An automated repairing solution that fits into the same space as a traditional manual cell without requiring new foundations, repairing panels directly in a stack. Panel grading and repair optimization are handled by Panel Visual Analyzer R5 powered with AI defect detection. This AI capability was specifically required to successfully recognize the fine hairline cracks and solid knots typical of Radiata pine. By identifying these minute defects, the system ensures IPL consistently meets stringent [AS/NZS 2269 & 2271] panel grading standards, which are significantly more demanding than equivalent EU requirements.
The integration of the R5 Repair Station is not an isolated investment, but the latest milestone in a partnership spanning seven years. The relationship began in 2018 with a successful XY charger (Block Centering Analyzer R7) modernization project, a decision solidified after IPL visited Raute reference sites in Taiwan and Canada. This foundational success paved the way for subsequent investments, including the new Layup Line R3 in 2023, and now the Panel Repair Station R5 in 2025.
For IPL, trusting Raute with this critical panel repairing upgrade was the natural progression of a deeply established, mill-wide partnership:
