STEICO, Poland - LVL production without data is not an option

Making Wood Matter

Summary

At STEICO’s LVL mill in Poland, production data is an integral part of daily operations. STEICO uses MillSIGHTS to monitor quality-critical parameters, manage yield, track downtime, and ensure traceability. The system provides a reliable and unified view of production, enabling STEICO’s teams to respond quickly, understand deviations, and maintain control across all process stages. This ensures consistent quality and efficient use of resources. For STEICO, this level of visibility is not optional. The company considers production intelligence software a requirement for running modern LVL production.

STEICO SE

STEICO produces wood-based construction materials, including LVL, I-joists, and wood fibre insulation. Its LVL production supports both external markets and internal product applications, where consistent quality and traceability are essential. Challenge

STEICO faced a unique challenge when it entered LVL manufacturing in 2015. The company was already a well-established distributor of white-label LVL, with an existing customer base and clear brand expectations for product quality.

To keep up with the existing demand, STEICO had to replace its external LVL supply almost overnight and deliver the same performance from its own production lines. There was no transition period or gradual ramp-up.

As such, reliable production data to control quality, output, and delivery was an absolute requirement from the start to achieve this goal.

As Piotr Łysiak, Deputy Operational Director, explains:

We had to replace our existing LVL supply quickly and deliver the same quality from day one.

In practice, this meant focusing from the beginning on:

  • Consistent product quality
STEICO needed tight control of production parameters to ensure reliable performance in structural applications.
  • Process stability
STEICO needed to manage natural variation in wood so that production conditions and output remained consistent.
  • Resource efficiency
STEICO needed to monitor yield, glue consumption, and energy use as key drivers of both cost and sustainability.
  • Traceability
STEICO needed full visibility into production to meet customer and certification requirements.
