Research and Development

Product development distinguishes Raute from competitors

As the leading technology company in its field, Raute is heavily committed to the continuous development of its products. Raute is the frontrunner in the utilization of new technologies and the search for applications. Research work is carried out both in the planning of new products, in making improvements to existing products and in the development of technology services such as maintenance and modernizations. Maintenance and service operations yield important information for use in product development.

Product development is always driven by customers' needs and with the aim of making their production more competitive. Product development is often carried out together with the customer in order to achieve optimum results. Projects may also involve other partners, research institutes, colleges and universities.

Continuous development work requires a working atmosphere that stimulates and inspires. Proper allocation of resources and competences is the route to finding new solutions.

Product development supports customer processes

The goal of product development is to help customers improve their profitability and competitiveness. Raute's R&D investments amount to around 3–4 percent of net sales. R&D activities involve upgrading existing machinery and services or the creation of entirely new products and concepts.

New products and services are being created to meet the customers' needs in terms of maximizing the use of wood, reducing the consumption of glue and additives and cutting energy and labor costs as well as improving the quality of the end products. New technologies are tested in cooperation with customers in production conditions. New solutions are also being developed for the needs of the emerging markets.

R&D projects focus on occupational safety and ergonomics, the predictability and cost-efficiency of maintenance and the environmental friendliness of end products and their manufacturing processes.

Several new technologies and automation solutions are designed and productized to enable them to be widely utilized in the modernization of the current installed machine base by extending the life cycle of the machinery and equipment with investment costs lower than those for acquiring a new production line.
